The Most Popular Hair Transplant Technique

If you are considering a hair transplant, you will undoubtedly have questions. One of the most common inquiries, aside from the cost of hair transplant in Turkey, is which technique is the most popular for hair transplantation? You want the best results, a quick recovery time, and minimum disruption to your life, so which surgery does the job?

There are several different options, and currently, FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the most popular and has replaced FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) as the “gold standard” of hair transplants. Below, we look at some of the most common surgeries and which could be the best option for you.

FUE – The Gold Standard for Hair Transplants

Advancements in technology have brought us the FUE hair transplant and this is currently the most popular option.

FUE = Follicular Unit Extraction

Where FUT removes strips of hair and leaves graft scarring, FUE uses a small device called a choi implanter pen to extract hair follicles. This virtually eliminates any scarring at the graft site compared to the typical line scar from FUT surgeries.

The procedure typically takes between 2-4 hours and involves the following steps:

  • Examination: Before your procedure the consultant will analyze your scalp and hairline to determine the best harvesting area, and how many grafts are needed.
  • Anesthetic: Once the examination is complete, you are given local anesthetic to your scalp to completely numb it. This should be virtually painless except for the initial needle application – you are then awake for the surgery.
  • Follicle Collection: The individual hair follicles are now extracted and collected and this is usually done with an even distribution to avoid creating any thin patches of hair.
  • Channel Opening: Once the hairs are harvested and placed in the preserving solution, channels are surgically opened in your scalp so they can be implanted.
  • Follicle Transplantation: Lastly, the hair follicles are transplanted into the new channel openings to complete the process.

FUE only leaves small circular scars where the hairs are removed and these are practically unnoticeable.

The recovery time is excellent and if you work from home you can be ready to go within 2-3 days. It offers minimum disturbance and also has a high success rate.

Alternatives to FUE to Consider

While FUE remains the most popular procedure there are other options worth considering, these include FUT and DHI.

FUT – Follicular Unit Transplantation

Follicular Unit Transplantation is the older method and although FUE is growing in popularity, many people still opt for an FUT surgery.

In this surgery, a long, thin strip of tissue from the back of your scalp is removed containing hair follicles. The individual units are then removed using a special process called microscopic dissection. After the follicles have been harvested, the wound on the back of your scalp is closed – this results in a long, fine scar.

The benefit is that you can easily hide the scar as it is generally only 1mm thick. Also, the extraction method results in better quality grafts and a slightly higher rate of success.

The downside compared to FUE is of course the line scar compared to the virtually undetectable round scars from the extraction sites of FUE. Furthermore, the recovery time for FUT is slightly longer and you can expect to be out of action for 10-12 days.

DHI – Direct Hair Implantation

DHI hair transplant in Turkey is steadily gaining traction and could overtake FUE in terms of popularity. This surgery uses the same principles as FUE but the transplantation method differs.

The choi implanter pen is used to extract hair follicles from the collection site after assessment and determination of the best harvesting areas of your scalp.

However, while FUE involves opening channels in your scalp to insert the follicles, DHI uses the same Choi Implanter pen with a different head to insert them. This means that the surgery is less invasive and the scarring is even less noticeable.

FUE Offers The Least Scarring and a Short Recovery Time

If you want a faster recovery time and undetectable scarring, FUE remains the best choice. The extraction method used leaves only a virtual indistinguishable scar and you can be back at work within 2-3 days after the surgery.
