What is the Success Rate of Hair Transplants?

Let’s start with one of the most important determining factors – success rates. As with any surgery, you don’t want to jump into it and go through trial and tribulation only for it to fail.

In most instances, this shouldn’t happen with hair transplants as the success rates are usually 90%+. This percentage increases for specific hair transplant procedures like FUE and DHI which use more advanced tools to remove the potential for human error. For these surgeries, the success rate is typically 95%+.

What are the Risks of Hair Transplants?

You have to be aware of the risks too before making any decision and there are some potential side effects and risks of hair transplants including:

  • Potential for bleeding or infection around the graft and donor sites.
  • Shock-loss after surgery which can result in some grafted hair falling out.
  • Small scarring (not noticeable when the hair is fully grown) over the donor site.

Advantages of Getting a Hair Transplant

  • Permanent Solution: Firstly and most importantly, for all intents and purposes, hair transplants are a permanent solution to hair loss. Once you have had the surgery, providing it is successful, the hair will last a lifetime and age as normal. This is different from other treatments like medication where you need to keep taking the drug to see continued results.
  • Fast recovery time: Compared to other major surgeries, the recovery time for hair transplants is excellent because you are not put under general anesthesia. With procedures like FUE and DHI, you can be back at work within 3-7 days and any discomfort usually doesn’t last past the first week either.
  • Excellent end results: Once your grafted hair has taken hold and grown fully, the end results are superb. You can check out our before and after results to see examples of the incredible transformations. These surgeries are capable of restoring hairlines, thickening bald patches, and generally giving you the full head of hair that you want.
  • Tailored to the individual: Lastly, hair transplant surgery is tailored to the individual – it’s not just a one-procedure fits all scenario. This means that you will only get the required number of grafts to suit the end results you want which can help reduce the cost. It also means that things like your hair loss condition are taken into account and a thorough assessment of the best donor sites is completed too.

Disadvantages of Getting a Hair Transplant

  • Not guaranteed success: I don’t know of a surgery that has a 100% success rate so this isn’t really anything to be surprised at. Of course, there is a small chance that your hair transplant could fail and the grafted hairs could be rejected by your body or they could fall out. However, due to the high success rate of 95%+ in Turkey, this hopefully will not happen. Even if it does, it doesn’t mean that all the transplanted hair will fail – you could simply need a top-up or a second session to cover patches of hair that failed.
  • The results are not immediate: It’s important to realize that the results of hair transplants are not immediate. It’s not like you go into surgery and emerge with a full head of hair. Full hair growth can take over 12 months so you have to be prepared to have a drastically different appearance while your shaven hair grows back during that initial post-surgery period.
  • Not a cheap procedure: There is of course the expense too. Hair transplants can span into the thousands and you have to think about travel costs too if you want your hair transplant in a different country like Turkey. However, the benefit of this is that hair transplants in Turkey are generally much cheaper than in other countries which offsets the cost somewhat.
